Brackley & District Band appoints Mark Probert as Muscial Director

Written by

Following Alexander Webb’s departure to pursue a conducting scholarship at RNCM, Brackley & District Band is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Probert as Musical Director. The band is very much looking forward to working with a musician of Mark’s calibre, and with musical projects such as the collaboration with award winning composer Chris Long which has already delivered one successful piece, we have a lot to be excited about!

Mark studied music at the Royal College of Music, completing Masters in Advanced Performance and BMus Degree. Whilst at the RCM, Mark gained experience as a conductor under the tutelage of Patrick Bailey and Neil Thompson, and led Zone One Brass at a number of prestigious performances, including for the annual visit of the RCM’s President, HRH Prince Charles.

Mark also served as a deputy MD for Zone One and deputised for a number of other brass bands including Regent Brass, Fulham Brass and Witney Town Band, taking Fulham Brass at the Whit Friday March Contests in 2015. He was also recently appointed conductor for the Oxfordshire County Youth Wind Band and serves as an instrumental teacher for the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra.

In addition to his conducting credentials, Mark has enjoyed success as a bass player, currently registered with the GUS Virtuosi Band, performing with them earlier this year when they won the All England International Masters Contest. Mark has also enjoyed appearances with other leading bands including Cory, Grimethorpe and Woodfalls.

Whilst at the RCM, Mark was a founding member of Zone One Brass, and held the position of Band Manager until December 2015. During this time Zone One enjoyed success, winning the Champion Band of London and Southern Counties Champion title in 2012 and qualifying for the National Brass Band Finals at the Royal Albert Hall four times. We would very much like to hear from anyone who would like to come along and join us in this new journey with Mark. The band rehearses on Mondays and Fridays between 7.45pm and 9.45pm at our own Band Club in the centre of Brackley, Northamptonshire (NN13 6DF). The rehearsal space is situated above the Band Club bar so come along and have a blow and a drink.
