Brackley & District Junior Band is open to any brass instrumentalist both orchestral and brass band of grade 2 standard or year 6 (11 years old). We rehearse every Wednesday during term time. Grades 2 – 4 rehearse from 7 – 8.30 and grade 5 up from 7.30 to 9 p.m. This means that everyone rehearses together for an hour from 7.30 -8.30 and the more advanced players can play more challenging music from 8.30 – 9.p.m.
We take part in various concerts, fetes and festivals throughout the year. We regularly perform alongside the senior band at the Christmas Carols outside the town hall, the bands’ Christmas Concert and Brackley Music Festival.
The band rehearses on Wednesday evenings: 7 – 8.30 p.m. main band, 8.30 – 9.00 advanced ensemble.
Over the years the Junior Band have competed in many music festivals and Brass Band Competitions. We have among our past members Banbury Young musicians of the year both senior and junior, Oxfordshire Brass band Association champions, Buckingham music festival champions and Northampton music festival champions. Our biggest claim to fame is that one of our previous members went on to music college and is now making a career as a professional trumpet player.
Sue Bennett works as a peripatetic brass teacher for Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Service and is the head of Brackley Centre for Music & Performing Arts which meets at Southfield County Primary School Banbury Road Brackley on Saturday mornings during term time.
